VMworld 2013 Session Catalog Now Live

VMworld 2013 in San Francisco is coming up from August 25th through August 29th. Recently the session Content Catalog has now been made available. You can now search through the 217 Sessions and 207 Exhibitors listed in the Catalog. These are a lot of great sessions being offered this year. For anyone who has an opportunity to go to VMworld this year I definitely recommend taking advantage of the event.

Red Hat Launches Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.2

Today in a press release Red Hat announced the global availability of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.2, with fully supported Storage Live Migration and a new third-party plug-in framework.

From the Press Release:

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.2 brings a vast array of new features, including:

Fully supported Storage Live Migration, allowing virtual machine images to be moved from one storage domain to another without disrupting service;
Support for the latest industry-standard processors from Intel and AMD, including Intel Haswell series and AMD Opteron G5 processors; and
Enhancements in storage management, networking management, fencing and power management, Spice console enhancements, logging and monitoring, and more.

VMware Extends Leading Analytics Capabilities with VMware vCenter Log Insight

Today in a press release VMware announced VMware vCenter Log Insight a new automated log management and analytics product for the cloud era. By extending analytics to logs, VMware enables IT organizations to gain real-time insights from vast amounts of log data generated by applications, physical hardware and virtualized infrastructure, helping to minimize troubleshooting times as well as improve operational efficiency and reduce IT costs.

“Dynamic virtual and cloud environments generate vast amounts of structured and unstructured data, requiring analytics for real-time intelligence and visibility across IT infrastructure and applications,” said Ramin Sayar, vice president and general manager, Cloud Management, VMware. “With VMware vCenter™ Log Insight™, we’re extending our analytics-based approach to provide timely and rich insight of machine-generated data to IT administrators and operations teams. By integrating VMware vCenter Log Insight with the industry-leading VMware vCenter™ Operations, we are enabling our customers to take advantage of our unique solution that simplifies troubleshooting in dynamic virtual and cloud environments.”

Availability and Public Beta

VMware vCenter Log Insight is now available for download via a public beta program. Participants can provide detailed product feedback, rank features and request new capabilities via the public beta program site at: http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/vcenter/vcenter-log-insight . The public beta program opens on June 11, 2013 and will run for an extended period of time.
A standalone product, VMware vCenter Log Insight is expected to be available in Q3 2013. It is priced at $200 per operating system instance with no log data size limits offering customers a predictable pricing model.

NTT Communications Selects VMware Network Virtualization

Yesterday in a press release, VMware announced NTT Communications (NTT Com), the cloud service provider of one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies NTT Group, will deploy VMware network virtualization as a core technology for its new cloud service, Enterprise Cloud (EC).

“To deliver on NTT Com’s global cloud vision announced in 2011, NTT Com offers a new business cloud service that will utilize network virtualization technology in its production environment across 11 data centers in nine countries,” said Motoo Tanaka, senior vice president of cloud services at NTT Com. “With advanced network virtualization technology from VMware, NTT Com will provide customers seamless connectivity between cloud infrastructures, and will support customers’ cloud migration by connecting with a customer’s on-premise data center. We continue to fully support customers using the cloud by offering services that deliver the latest technologies.”

vSphere Data Protection (VDP) 5.1.11 and VDP Advanced 5.1.21 Released

Today on their vSphere blog VMware announced that vSphere Data Protection (VDP) 5.1.11 and VDP Advanced 5.1.21 have been released. The releases are mainly bug fix releases addressing a number of issues.

Issues resolved in VDO 5.1.11 include among others:

Failing to unregister the proxy during vCenter switch should not reboot the appliance.
VDP is not able to connect to the vCenter of a non-default port when updates occur.
Creating backup jobs without selecting a retention policy should not be allowed.
The backup schedule exists on the VDP Appliance after deleting the backup job.

WorldPay Deploys VMware Network Virtualization

Today in a press release VMware announced WorldPay, a global leader in payment processing, risk and alternative payments, has deployed VMware network virtualization to support the user self-provisioning requirements of application developers. With network virtualization, WorldPay is now experiencing the same agility, flexibility and speed benefits in networking as compute virtualization delivered for servers.

Citrix Announces VDI-in-a-Box 5.3

Last week on their Blog Site Citrix Announced that VDI-in-a-Box 5.3 will be released at the end of June. This latest release shares some important Citrix technologies with XenDesktop 7.

Some of the key points from the announcement include:

VDI-in-a-Box 5.3 now supports Windows 8
support the latest version of XenServer, as well as Hyper-V and vSphere
an SSL certificate installation user interface that vastly improves the experience when dealing with the certificates

I always like to look for the recent KB articles released by VMware ( I follow VMwareKB on twitter) and bring interesting articles here.

Today VMware released their top 20 articles for May 2013 which is a cool consolidation of the top issues VMware is seeing and resolved by KB Articles. This list is ranked by the number of times a VMware Support Service Request was resolved by following the steps in a published Knowledge Base article.
